Valve Body Installation

Tools Needed:

  • 8mm Socket

  • 10mm Socket

  • 13mm Socket

  • IN-LB Torque Wrench

  • Drain Pan

Step 1: Place drain pan under transmission. Pull the 13mm drain plug & drain fluid from the transmission.

Step 2: Reinstall drain plug. Remove the 10mm bolts out of the transmission pan & lower it to the floor.

Step 3: Lay on your right side & raise the pan up under the transmission. Reach above the pan & pull the filter out by pulling it straight down from the front. This will only take a little pressure. Keep the pan close while removing the filter to prevent a mess. Once the filter is out, place it in the pan & set it on the floor. (This is the easiest & least messy way to do this)

Step 4: You will now see the valve bodies & solenoids. The valve body you are going to remove is at the very front of the transmission. Remove the 11- 8mm bolts & the 2 – 10mm nuts. Lower the valve body into the pan with the filter.

Step 5: Remove the screen filter by turning it 90 degrees counter clockwise then pulling it down. After the filter is removed, clean it out.

Step 6: You will now install the tune plate. Place the plate so that the large circular cutout is over the area you removed the screen filter from. You should be able to press the plate against the transmission & the fluid tension pressure should hold it.

Step 7: Place the screen filter back in its original position over the newly installed tune plate.

Step 8: You will now install the BTS Valve Body. Place the valve body & finger-tighten the 11- 8mm bolts & the 2- 10mm nuts. Now torque all the bolts & nuts to 80 in-lbs.

Step 9: Be sure to remove the old filter’s o-ring!

Step 10: Install the new filter with the new o-ring by pushing the new filter into place.

Step 11: Clean the pan & drain plug magnet before putting it back on. Torque the 10mm bolts to 120 in-lbs.

Step 12: Put 8 quarts of oil in then check it. (If your transmission & converter is stock, use Dextron III)

**Be sure to run the truck through the gears to get the air out, either on while on jack or gingerly on the street.

Other Info:

The tune plate will be drilled for shift firmness you request at the time of your order. If you would like the shift firmness changed later, you need to call BTS with the tune plate in hand & a drill to discuss changing the holes.
